Augusta Lynx News Release

Rod Sarich scored twice in the first period to help Augusta claim their second straight victory at Germain Arena over the Florida Everblades on Tuesday night.

Augusta jumped on rookie netminder Terry Dunbar with three first period goals, the first off the stick of Rod Sarich at the 4:55 mark from Colt King and Matt Schmidt. Sarich would net his second of the frame on the power play at 17:24 on a Louis Goulet set up, walking into the slot and roofing the puck over Dunbar's shoulder to make it 2-0. Lawne Snyder also collected a helper on the tally. At 17:58, King would break in on the right wing, and in cutting across the crease slip the puck in behind Dunbar as the goaltender over-committed for a 3-0 Lynx lead. Schmidt and Jarrett Thompson collected the assists as Augusta looked to be in command after twenty minutes of play.

Florida would ride the power play back into the game, however, scoring twice with the man advantage in the second stanza. The first goal came on a Brent McDonald one-timer at 8:44 from Chris Lee, followed by Lee scoring on a return favor from McDonald and Matt Pagnutti at 11:25. After both teams registered 11 shots on goal in the opening frame, Augusta found themselves out-shot 14-3 in the second, and looked to rebound for the third period.

After fending off what remained of a power play advantage for the Everblades, the Lynx would shut down all scoring against and manage a late empty net goal for insurance from Jamie Johnson at 19:57 to cement a 4-2 win for the Lynx. Jason Saal celebrated his birthday with 37 saves to earn the win, while Dunbar stopped 14 shots in the loss. Augusta will next battle the Everblades at home on Friday night at 7:35 pm, with pre-game show starting one half-hour before game time on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
