South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Joe Pereira scored his first goal of the season and then the deciding goal in the eighth round of the shootout to give the Augusta Lynx a 4-3 shootout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum.

"I'm glad that we were able to battle back and get at least one point," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "Davis Parley kept us in the game until our offense got on track. It was a good learning lesson that we have to work harder for a full 60 minutes to get two points."

Augusta (7-5-0, 14 points) opened the score on the power play at 10:38 of the first period. Pereira tipped home his first goal of the year getting the puck past Parley. Ryan Lang and Derrick Byfuglien picked up the assists.

Jamie Johnson made it 2-0 on a great individual effort stick handling around a couple players and finishing with his fourth tally of the campaign. Lang garnered his second helper of the game and J.B. Bittner also had a helper.

It remained that way into the third period, when South Carolina's (7-4-1, 15 points) Chris Chaput netted his team-tying seventh goal on the power play at the 53 second mark assisted by Jarrett Konkle.

Johnson netted his second of the game to give Augusta a 3-1 at 4:30 of the third with helpers going to Bittner and Lang.

However, just 21 seconds later Cam McCaffrey jammed in his third goal of the year to make it 3-2. Chaput and Konkle garnered helpers.

Stingrays tied the game with 1:26 left in regulation. Evan Schwabe recorded his second of the year converting a Cail MacLean pass. Jamie Fraser also collected an assist on the tally.

In the shootout, Augusta picked up goals from Joe Cardarelli, Dirk Southern and Pereira, while South Carolina had markers from Bryson Busniuk and MacLean.

South Carolina converted on 2-of-5 power play chances, while Augusta went 1-for-8. Stingrays outshot the Lynx 44-40.
