Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Saturday night, the Rapid City Rush faced off with the Evansville IceMen at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Rush fired a season-high 48 shots on net while allowing just 20, but the IceMen prevailed by a 4-2 score. The contest was the final home game of the month for the Rush who now head out on a season-long eight-game road trip.

The IceMen earned a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to a pair of goals from Jeff Nelson. The first goal came at the 7:25 mark when Nelson poked home a rebound that sat just behind Rush goaltender Danny Battochio. All-Star Brian Bicek then sent a back-door pass to set up Nelson for his second of the game, just as a Rush penalty expired. The period closed with the Rush outshooting the IceMen 19-6, but Evansville holding onto the 2-0 lead.

The IceMen lead was cut in half on a strange play that resulted in Konrad Reeder's third goal of the season for Rapid City. Reeder attempted a shot from the blueline that deflected off of an Evansville player and high in the air, eventually landing behind goaltender Matt Lundin and in. The Rush then tied the game while on the powerplay when Jamie Carroll set up Colt King in the slot, allowing the veteran to fire home his seventh of the season. The Rush left the ice outshooting the IceMen 36-14 after 40 minutes, and the score tied at 2-2.

In the third, Bicek collected his second point of the night and 18th goal of the season when he slammed home a pass from Jake Obermeyer, making it 3-2. The final goal of the night was scored by Matt Pierce on an empty net, with just 20 seconds left in the game, giving the IceMen the 4-2 win.
