
Donaghy Helps Thunder to Fifth Straight Win

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder won their fifth consecutive game, beating the Laredo Bucks 6-3 at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Sunday evening.
Rookie left wing Dustin Donaghy scored a hat trick to lead the offense, while Chris Greene had two assists. Jesse Bennefield, Jason Goulet, and Bobby Hughes also had multi-point games.
Wichita built a 2-1 lead after the first, highlighted by two goals from Donaghy. Donaghy scored the first goal of the night at 2:08, tipping Robin Richards' shot from the right circle over the right shoulder of Bucks' goaltender Torrie Jung. After Jeff Hazelwood tied the game for Laredo at 9:58, Donaghy cashed in his own rebound just 45 seconds later to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage.
Daniel Koger scored a power play goal from the slot to tie the game at 3:07 in the second, but Wichita responded with four unanswered goals to run out the frame with a 6-2 lead. A.J. Gale won a scramble in front of the crease at 4:08 to give Wichita its third lead of the night. At 12:57, Jesse Bennefield knocked in a close-range pass from Lance Galbraith to make it 4-2. Donaghy potted his third of the night at 16:00, beating Jung on a wrist shot from the right circle.
David Wilson subbed for Jung after the Thunder's fifth goal. Bobby Hughes scored at 17:29 to cap off the period, taking advantage of crisp passing from Bennefield and Mike Looby. Hans Benson sliced the lead to 6-3, scoring at 2:06 in the third, but Wichita shut down the Bucks for the remainder of the game.
Marty Magers saved 22 of 25 for the win, while Jung took the loss, saving 18 of 23. Wilson saved 13 of 14 in his relief effort. The Thunder went 1 for 6 on the power play, while Laredo was 2 for 5. Wichita has now won 10 of their last 13 games.
