
Shorthanded Bucks Rolled by Thunder 6-3

WICHITA, KS- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Wichita Thunder 6-3 Sunday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Bucks went 1-2 in their three-games in three nights stretch as they fall to 14-18-6 (34 points).
Dustin Donaghy picked up his first professional hat trick to lead the Thunder to their fifth straight win as they improve to 21-15-2 (44 points).
The Thunder took the early lead over the Bucks just 2:08 into the first period when Donaghy tipped in a shot in front of the net to pick up his first goal of the season.
The Bucks would tie the game at 1-1 at the 9:58 mark of the first when Jeff Hazelwood stole a pass at center ice and scored from the bottom of the left circle to pick up his seventh of the campaign.
Wichita would re-take the lead just 45 seconds later when Donaghy scored on a backhanded rebound from the right side of the crease to net his second of the game.
The Thunder outshot the Bucks 10-6 in the first period.
Wichita would explode for four second period goals to take a 6-2 lead after 40 minutes.
The Bucks would tie the game at 2-2 just 3:07 into the second when Daniel Koger scored from the slot on the power-play to net his 20th of the season.
Wichita would then score four unanswered goals to break the game open.
Just 61 seconds later A.J Gale would tip in a loose puck on the left side of the crease put the Thunder up 3-2. The goal was Gale's 17th of the year.
The Thunder would increase their lead to 4-2 with 7:03 left in the second when Jesse Bennefield hammered in a shot from the left circle to score his 22nd of the season.
Donaghy made it 5-2 with three minutes left in the period.
With the Thunder up 5-2 the Bucks pulled goaltender Torrie Jung and replaced him with Dave Wilson. Jung stopped 17 of 22 shots he faced while Wilson set aside 13 of 14.
Just 29 seconds later Bobby Hughes jammed in a rebound from the left side of the crease to put the Thunder up 6-2.
Wichita outshot Laredo 14-7 in the second period.
Hans Benson scored to make it 6-3 Thunder just 2:06 into the third period. The goal was Benson's third in two games and eighth of the season.
The Bucks were outshot in the third period 13-12 as well as for the game 37-25.
The Bucks played their fourth straight game shorthanded as had just 13 skaters with Neil Trimm, Darryl Smith, Justin Styffe and Brian Matte all sitting out with injuries.
Laredo closes out their four-game road trip Tuesday night at Rio Grande Valley. Game time is 7:00pm.
