SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings won its 20th game of the year Saturday, January 22nd, defeating the Dayton Gems 4-1 at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. R.G. Mississippi took a 2-1 lead in the first period on goals scored by Russell Smith and Andrew Lackner. Smith scored on his former teammates at 3:32 of the frame for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Smith's fifth of the season.
After Matthew Larke tied the game at 1-1 at 7:53, Andrew Lackner gave the RiverKings the lead back at 16:07 on a shot from the point for his third goal of the season, a blast that gave Mississippi a 2-1 lead after one period.
The RiverKings increased the margin to 3-1 in the second period on a goal from R.G. Flath, his second point of the night and 11th goal of the season at 7:58 of the second period.
Mississippi finished the night with a goal from Jeff Christian at 6:16 of the final period for the 4-1 final result.
The RiverKings dominated the offensive side of the game, finishing with a 36-21 advantage on the shot clock. Neither team scored on the power play, however.
