
Mavericks Shutout by Thunder, 4-0

WICHITA, Kansas - The Wichita Thunder completed a weekend sweep in a 4-0 shutout win over the Missouri Mavericks Saturday night at Intrust Bank Arena. Missouri was shutout for just the second time this season and third time in team history. Four different goal scorers provided the offense for the Thunder who improved to 6-2-0 over the Mavericks this season. Marc-Antoine Gelinas earned his third shutout of the season and fourth win over the Mavericks.
The Thunder scored a pair of goals in each of the first two periods en route to their 20th win of the season. Jesse Bennefield and Andrew Martens tallied goals in the first period to give Wichita a 2-0 lead. Wichita outshot the Mavs 12-7 in the first period and killed the Mavericks' only power play of the period.
Wichita scored two goals in the second period to put the game away. Matt Robinson scored at the 6:21 mark on assists from A.J. Gale and Martens to take a 3-0 lead. Then Aaron Davis capped a three-point performance with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 11:09. Davis' goal was the only special teams goal of the game and proved to be the final goal of the game.
Missouri didn't muster any offense in the final period after putting up just six shots and 16 overall in the game.
The Mavericks continued their penalty kill streak by blanking the Thunder on five chances in the game. Missouri has not allowed a power play goal in their past six games and the team has allowed just one power play goal in the last 12 games.
