Allen Americans News Release

The first place Allen Americans cruised to their fourth straight victory tonight, defeating the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 in front of 5,563 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

The Americans jumped out to a 1-0 lead 5:40 into the opening period when Dave Bonk's backhander beat Killer Bees netminder Mike Brown. Scott Langdon was credited with the lone assist on the play.

Rio Grande Valley's Brett Wilson tied the game at 1 7:08 into the period, but Tobias Whelan would answer with his fourteenth tally of the season just 0:13 later to put the Americans back on top 2-1.

The lead would hold for the remainder of the period despite a barrage of shots from the Killer Bees. Netminder Scott Campbell was stellar in the period, stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced.

The scored remained 2-1 through forty minutes of play as both goaltenders remained strong. Scott Campbell continued to impress with 7 saves, while Mike Brown stopped all 11 Allen shots.

Erik Adams extended the Americans lead to 3-1 3:22 into the third period when his slapshot from the point found it's way through traffic and into the back of the net. The goal extended Adams point streak to seven games (4g, 3a).

Nick Sucharski cut the Americans lead to 3-2 with 0:18 remaining in regulation, but strong defensive play during the game's final moments kept the Killer Bees from finding the equalizer.

Scott Campbell, the game's first star, finished the night with 31 saves on 33 shots and is now 6-2-0 on the season. The Americans killed off all five Rio Grande Valley power plays, making them 26-28 on the kill over the last five games.

Allen improves to 28-7-1 with the win and continue to lead the Berry Conference and the Central Hockey League with 57 points.

The Americans will now travel to Laredo for a meeting with the Bucks on Friday night at 7:30 PM, before returning home to the Allen Event Center for a Saturday night showdown with the same Bucks at 7:00 PM. Allen will then faceoff against the Rapid City Rush on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available for both home games by calling 972-912-1000 or by visiting www.allenamericans.com
