IceMen Trade Cheesman for Obermeyer

January 23, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- Set to broach their longest road travel of the current 2010-11 Central Hockey League season in the form of an extended three games' Western road expedition, the Evansville IceMen have announced their third major player trade of their inaugural AA/CHL season.

On this date, IceMen General Manager/Coach Rich Kromm has announced that the club has obtained the services of defenseman JAKE OBERMEYER from the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in exchange for right wing BO CHEESMAN. The trade takes effect immediately with both players expected to join their new teams in time for their next CHL games.

OBERMEYER, 26, is presently in his second pro season with both of his campaigns under the employ of the CHL. Thus far, in the current 2010-11 season, the 6-0, 185lb right-hand shooting rearguard has played in 37-games for Rio Grande, emerging as the team's second top scoring defenseman with 16-points on 4-goals, 12-assists and 42-PIM. The American-bred from Chanhassen, Minnesota became a power play specialist for the Killer Bees, collecting 8-power play points including 3-goals, 5-assists.

A collegiate hockey product of both Michigan Tech and Robert Morris U., Obermeyer launched his pro career in 2009-10 with the since-extinct Amarillo Gorillas. Demonstrating the epitome of durability in playing all 64 of his team's games, he fashioned 24-points on 7-goals, 17-assists with 43-PIM and 1-GWG.

GM/Coach Kromm explained the reason and purpose of his club's latest league trade. "We have been looking for another top, quality defenseman who fits into what we are attempting to attain here in Evansville. We think Jake will bring those kinds of talents to our organization. He skates and moves the puck quite well, has an offensive upside and should improve our team speed. He has the ability to act as another step forward in upgrading our overall team."

Prior to his pro career, Obermeyer gained some significant credentials in both the collegiate ranks as well as through junior `A' hockey. For three years (2006-2009) he performed his craft at Robert Morris following a three-year stint in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm (Nebraska) and in the WCHA at Michigan Tech.

Cheesman, 29, is currently in his 6th pro season and his initial campaign in the CHL and with Evansville. Playing in all 37 of the IceMen games, the product of Lake Superior State U., registered 23-points on 9-goals, 14-assists with 25-PIM, 3-PPG, 6-PPA, 1-SHG, 1-GWG and 2-FG.

Coach Kromm saluted Cheesman for his contributions to the IceMen organization. "Bo has been a real asset to the IceMen organization both on and off the ice. We are most appreciative of his contributions and wish him all the best in Rio Grande and in the future."

As for the IceMen's newest acquisition, Obermeyer, he is expected to make his debut when Evansville launches its three game Western road swing Wednesday night in Colorado against league perennial power, the Eagles in the first-ever meeting between the two newly-created Turner Conference foes. The IceMen will conclude the long excursion with a pair of weekend collisions at Rapid City, the home of the reigning league champions, the Rush. Those two latter contests are set for this Friday and Saturday nights. All three games will have an opening face-off of 8:00 pm CT with broadcast time for each clash set for 7:30 pm on WEOA-AM 1400 and 1400amweoa.com.
