Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton (Low A -- Midwest League)

@ Clinton 3, Quad Cities 2

Jose Garcia (2.89) gave the LumberKings yet another tremendous start, going seven and allowing just two runs, one earned, on three hits and a walks while fanning four and Joel Kirsten (2.54) held things together through regulation with two scoreless frames, but at the end of nine, the score was knotted at two apiece.

Cesar Herrera (7-3; 3.84) fired off a perfect top of the tenth and then second baseman Micah Furtado led off the home half with a walk, advancing to second on a Dane Bubela single and then to third when Justin Hatcher reached on a fielder's choice that failed to result in an out, loading the bases. Next up, Brandon Cashman also reached on a fielder's choice that allowed the speedy Furtado to score the winning run.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Andrew Wishy put Clinton on the board with the big left fielder's 14thhome run of the year. Wishy finished 1-2 with a walk. Justin Hatcher gave Clinton a brief lead with an RBI double in the sixth that plated Bubela.

The LumberKings, 7-3 over their last ten games, are now two games ahead of Quad Cities in the fight for an MWL playoff slot. The two clubs play one-another six times over the next six days.
