Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL -- Steve Sherman hit a two-out grand slam homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to push the Peoria Chiefs to a 5-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. The Chief comeback spoiled a chance for Rattler starter Ryan Feierabend to earn his tenth win of the season.
Peoria (71-63 overall, 33-32 second half) got on the board with an RBI double by Jarrett Hoffpauir in the bottom of the fifth inning. But, that was the only run Feierabend would allow. The lefty pitched seven innings and gave up four hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
Wisconsin (57-77, 26-39) took advantage of three Peoria errors in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. MIke Nesbit reached on an error to start the inning. Josh Womack sent a single to left with Nesbit running on the pitch. The throw went into third and Womack took off for second. Nesbit was sage and Peoria third baseman Chris Patrick tried to get Womack at second, but threw the ball into right allowing Nesbit to score and Womack to take third.
On the next pitch, Nick Orlandos tapped the ball back to the mound and Womack got caught in a rundown. Womack got back to third when pitcher Mike Parisi threw high and was charged with an error. Adam Jones, who knocked in the go ahead run with a single to left.
Ruben Castillo relieved Feierabend to start the bottom of the eighth inning and got the first two batters, but gave up a walk and a single. Mike Hrynio relieved and walked John-Paul Davis on four straight balls to load the bases. Sherman, playing in just his second game with the Chiefs, smacked a 1-0 pitch over the left-centerfield wall for a grand slam and a 5-2 Peoria lead.
By appearing in the game, Hrynio set a single season Timber Rattler record for appearances by a pitcher with his fifty-second game.
Wisconsin ends their twelve-game, thirteen-day road trip Thursday night. Casey Abrams (0-1, 10.93ERA) will make his first professional start for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria will send Cristobal Correa (3-6, 3.64ERA) to the mound. Game time is 6:00pm.
