
Bees Win Fourth Straight, One Game Out of Playoff Spot

Beloit, WI - The Burlington Bees (32-32, 54-80) won for the fourth straight game and the seventh time in their last eight with a 5-4 win over the Beloit Snappers (32-32, 70-64) at Pohlman Field tonight. The Bees have now won five in a row against the Snappers to even the season series at 5-5. The Bees are now in a three-way tie with Beloit and Peoria in the Western Division standings, just one game behind the Quad Cities for a spot in the Midwest League playoffs.
For the second game in a row against the Snappers, the Bees did not trail. The Bees got on the board with three runs in the top of the second inning. With runners on first and third and nobody out, Ed Lucas hit a fly ball to center that hit Steve Moss in the glove and fell to the ground. Moss recovered to force out Alan Moye at second as Kila Kaaihue scored to make it 1-0. Lucas reached on a fielder's choice and picked up an RBI. Kevin Reinking followed with a double to move Lucas to third. Anibal Figuereo hit a sacrifice fly caught in foul territory down the right field line to drive in Lucas. Jeff Barry followed with a single to left to drive in Reinking and the Bees led 3-0. In the top of the fourth, Kaaihue smacked a solo homer to right to extend the lead to 4-0. Kaaihue leads the team with 15 homers on the year, the most by a Bee since Chad Santos hit 16 in 2001.
The Bees added one more run in against Snappers' starter Justin Barnes (1-2) in the fifth. Barry led of with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Angel Sanchez, and scored on a single to center by Brandon Powell. Barnes gave way to Kevin Rival with a runner on and one out in the top of the sixth. Rival worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. Ty Taubenheim struck out two in a scoreless ninth.
The Snappers got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Bees' starter Carlos Rosa hit Guilder Rodriguez, walked Hernan Iribarren, and served up a three-run homer to Vinny Rottino. It was the first homer allowed by Rosa this season. Rosa worked through four innings and gave way to Nate Moore for the fifth. Moore worked two scoreless innings before giving up a run in the seventh that pulled the Snappers to within one at 5-4. Rodriguez doubled and scored on a groundout by Drew Anderson. Moore (2-1) was credited with the win after Gabe DeHoyos finished off the final two innings for his fourth save. DeHoyos has earned a save in each of his last four appearances.
Reinking finished with two doubles and has hit safely in six straight games. Powell matched his season-high hitting streak for the third time with a hit in his fifth straight game. Sanchez had his nine-game hitting streak snapped, but moved into second on the Bees career list with his 15th sacrifice bunt. Figuereo had his season-high four-game hitting streak snapped.
The Bees and Snappers continue this series tomorrow night at 7:00 at Pohlman Field. RH Greg Atencio (7-14, 5.86) will start for the Bees against RH Carlos Villanueva (8-8, 3.81) for the Snappers. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:40.
