Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls center fielder Josh Lowe lashed four hits and drove in four runs, including a two-run homer, while catcher Joe Hudson crushed a two-run blast in Durham's 9-2 victory over the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. With their fifth straight win, the Bulls maintained their lead in the International League East Division with eight regular season games remaining.
After Norfolk struck first in the top of the first, Durham answered when Lowe drove in his first run of the night with an RBI single to __. Lowe would then launch one of two longballs in the second, a two-run blast that followed Hudson's big fly to make it 5-1. Lowe would later drive in his fourth run of the evening in the fourth before LF Bligh Madris's two-run single in the sixth extended the lead to 9-1. The Tides in the next frame would score a single tally to narrow their deficit to seven.
Lowe (4-5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI) led all batters with his four knocks, while SS Vidal Brujan (2-5, R) also added a multi-hit effort. RF Miles Mastrobuoni reached base three times, including a double that was his 150th knock of the season, including his 50th extra-base hit.
Durham southpaw Josh Fleming (3.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 SO) earned the win with his three scoreless innings of work in support of right-hander Yonny Chirinos (3.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 SO). Norfolk righty Ryan Conroy (1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
The Bulls are set to continue their final homestand of the year with Norfolk on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Durham's starting pitcher has not yet been determined, while the Tides are anticipated to give the ball to RHP Grayson Rodriguez.
