Albany Devils News Release

Lowell, Mass. - The Lowell Lock Monsters recalled LW Steve Saviano today from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. In addition, LW Kevin Estrada was reassigned by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Everblades.

Saviano, 24, is tied for 20th in the ECHL in scoring, despite playing in only nine games this season with Florida. He leads the Everblades in goals (5), assists (9), points (14) and shots on goal (47). The 5'8", 180-pound winger leads the ECHL with three shorthanded goals and is also a plus-5 on the season. Saviano has not taken a penalty yet this season and has added five points on the power play. Under contract with Lowell, he suited up in six games last season with the Lock Monsters and 58 games with the Everblades, but will make his first regular season appearance with Lowell this season.

A native of Reading, Massachusetts, Saviano led the Everblades in assists (38) and finished fourth in points (52) during his rookie campaign in 2004-05. He enjoyed a successful college career at the University of New Hampshire, playing four seasons and putting up 117 points in 139 games. That included his senior season, when he was named Hockey East Player of the Year and also won the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award.

"Steve's been one of the best players in the ECHL this season," said Head Coach Tom Rowe. "He deserves a chance to come up and compete for a spot."

Estrada, 23, has appeared in only eight of the Monsters 19 games this season. He has recorded no points and six penalty minutes with Lowell.

The Lock Monsters are teaming up with the Lowell Sun to give one fan the chance to win $25,000 at the next Lock Monsters home game, Friday, November 25th against Springfield. If Lowell scores eight goals, one fan in attendance will win the cash. The eight goal stipulation is in honor of the Monsters eighth season in the Merrimack Valley, and is also the team record. The Monsters season-high so far in 05-06 is seven in a 7-3 victory over Springfield in October.

Individual tickets start at $10 and are on sale now at the Tsongas Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Full season, 20-game, mini-plans and Flex Packs are now on sale as well; contact the Lock Monsters ticket office at (978) 458-PUCK (7825) for remaining seat availability. All games home and away, can be heard live on 980 WCAP with the Voice of the Monsters, Ryan Johnston.
