Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Midland, MI - The Fort Wayne TinCaps didn't get their first hit until the 7th inning in a 10-0 loss at the hands of the Great Lakes Loons, Thursday at Dow Diamond. TinCaps pitchers issued nine walks.
Loons LHP Aaron Miller, drafted earlier this year in the supplemental 1st round, faced the minimum in six no-hit innings. He hit Allan Dykstra with a pitch in the 5th inning but promptly induced a double play to erase the runner.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne RHP Stiven Osuna was tagged with seven runs in a nightmarish bottom of the 1st inning. Dee Gordon returned from a knee injury and drilled a leadoff triple off the right- field wall. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jaime Pedroza. The next four batters walked to make it 2-0. After a run-scoring fielder's choice, Alfredo Silverio roped a bases-clearing double down the left-field line to push the lead to 6-0. Gordon then singled home the final run of the inning.
The Loons added another run in the 2nd on Matt Wallach's RBI single. They scored again in the 4th
when Nick Buss lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 9-0.
The TinCaps did not have a base hit until the top of the 7th inning when Blake Tekotte stroked a leadoff single against LHP Geison Aguasviva. They only managed three hits on the night.
Great Lakes finished the scoring on Pedroza's towering solo home run over the right-field wall in the 8th . RHP Eduardo Perez followed by plunking Anthony Hatch and was ejected from the game. Manager Doug Dascenzo argued the ejection and quickly was booted himself.
Osuna (9-9) took the loss, but fought through four innings, allowing nine runs on five hits and eight walks. Miller (3-1) received the win.
The TinCaps fell to 87-43 for the season, 42-18 in the second half. Great Lakes jumped to 74-56 on the year, 34-26 for the half. The teams split the four-game series.
Fort Wayne stays on the road for a four-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers). Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (7-2) goes to the mound for Fort Wayne against West Michigan LHP Adam Wilk (2-1) on Friday in a 7:00pm start.
