Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, MI - Bobby Blevins did something Wednesday night he had not done since May 9 and something else he had never done professionally. Blevins failed to last five innings for the first time in 18 starts and for the first time in his professional career he allowed a bases loaded hit. And for the second time in three games, the Loons dropped a 5-1 decision to the Fort Wayne Tincaps.

With his 4 1/3 innings pitched, however, Blevins established a new franchise season high in innings pitched, surpassing Justin Miller's 140 innings pitched in 2008.

Meanwhile his mound opponent Erik Davis was dominant, striking out a career-high 11 Loons batters in just five innings.

The Tincaps' first two runs came in the second and were unearned, scored following an error by first baseman Matt Wallach.

In the fourth inning, Fort Wayne recorded four consecutive singles to begin the inning by Allan Dykstra, Cole Figueroa, Daniel Robertson and Yefri Carvajal. Carvajal's single scored Dykstra for the 'Caps' third run. Blevins then struck out Justin Baum, Adam Zornes and got Blake Tekotte to ground out to Wallach to end the inning. The single by Carvajal was the first career bases loaded hit surrendered by Blevins, who is now holding hitters to a 1-for-20 mark in his pro career with three runners on base.

In the fifth, Blevins surrendered a single to Kevin Hansen and a two-run home run to Jaff Decker to extend Fort Wayne's lead to 5-0. With one out in the inning, Jordan Pratt relieved Blevins to end his five-plus innings start streak at 18. Pratt combined with Jon Dutton for 4 2/3 scoreless relief innings.

Following four scoreless frames to begin the game, Davis allowed a fifth-inning run to the Loons. After a leadoff walk to Joe Becker, Wallach singled with one out to put two runners on base. Jaime Pedroza followed with a run-producing double down the first base line to score Becker. Pedroza and Wallach were both left stranded, and Nick Schumacher, Allan Harrington and Brad Brach combined for four shutout innings in relief of Davis.

Davis (14-6) picked up the win and is now tied with the Loons' JonMichael Redding for the league-lead in wins.

With South Bend's win over Dayton, the Loons' magic number falls to five. With any combination of five Loons' wins or fifth place team losses (which is now Dayton), the Loons will clinch the franchise's first playoff berth.

Fort Wayne is now 87-42 and 42-17 in the second half. They have the most wins in Minor League Baseball.

The Loons and Tincaps conclude their four-game series Thursday night at Dow Diamond. The game will feature a post-game fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning. Left-hander Aaron Miller (2-1, 2.11 ERA) will start for the Loons against righty Stiven Osuna (9-7, 4.29). Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-ESPN.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
