LANSING, Mich. - Kenny Wilson dashed home with the tying run in the sixth inning and the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, lifting the Lansing Lugnuts (24-35; 50-78) to a tight 3-1 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps (34-26; 77-53) before a crowd of 9,954 on Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park.

The win gave the Lugnuts a split of the four-game series, the fourth straight series that Lansing has split.

After working on learning how to switch-hit in instructional league play and in batting practice, the right-handed Wilson found immediate production in his first game batting from the left side.

With the Whitecaps leading 1-0 in the sixth, Wilson's speed panicked third baseman Ronnie Bourquin on a routine grounder to third, causing a wild throw that sent the fleet center fielder streaking into second base. Three batters later, Johermyn Chavez tied the score with a sacrifice fly to center field off West Michigan starter Anthony Shawler.

Two innings later, Wilson drew a two-out walk from reliever Brandon Hamilton (5-5) and immediately stole second base. After Ryan Goins similarly walked, Mark Sobolewski lined a go-ahead RBI single into right field. Chavez followed with an RBI single of his own against Tyler Stohr to close out the scoring.

West Michigan threatened in the ninth, putting runners on second and third with two outs, but Frank Gailey coaxed a routine fly out from Angel Flores to end the game.

Lansing's Jason Roenicke (2-5) picked up the win with 3 1/3 innings of one-hit scoreless mastery in relief of starter Ryan Shopshire. Gailey earned his first save.

On Friday, the Lugnuts begin a four-game series at Dayton with a 7:00 p.m. affair. Right-hander Joel Carreno (1-2, 3.39) will start for Lansing, opposed by Dragons left-hander Justin Walker (0-1, 2.40).
