Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, MI - Loons left-hander Aaron Miller threw six no-hit, shutout innings and Great Lakes scored seven runs in the first inning against Fort Wayne starter Stiven Osuna en route to a 10-0 shutout win.

Dee Gordon began the bottom of the first inning with a ringing triple off the right field wall. He scored the Loons' first run of the game on a Jaime Pedroza sacrifice fly. Then with the bases empty and one out, Osuna proceeded to walk four consecutive batters forcing home a run. Joe Becker followed and produced a run on a fielder's choice grounder to short. After Jerry Sands was hit by an Osuna pitch, Alfredo Silverio cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. Silverio scored on a single by Gordon, who was thrown out at second to end the inning.

The first frame produced six more runs than the Loons' pitching trio of Miller, Geison Aguasviva and Cole St. Clair needed.

Miller retired the first 13 hitters he faced. In the fifth, the left-hander from Baylor University hit Allan Dykstra to end the perfect game bid. But the next batter, Daniel Robertson, grounded into a 4-6-3 double play and Miller had still faced the minimum. He retired the Tincaps in order in the sixth with a no-hit bid intact, but departed the game after reaching his pitch count limit.

Miller (3-1) struck out five and hit one batter in his six nearly-flawless innings and was credited with the win. Aguasviva entered and surrendered a single to the leadoff hitter Blake Tekotte, but the left-handed did not allow a run in his two innings of work. St. Clair pitched around a leadoff double in the ninth to close out the game.

Pedroza put an exclamation point on the victory with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his 14th of the year. Reliever Eduardo Perez - a former Dodgers farmhand who was traded to the Padres in the Greg Maddux deal last year - plunked Hatch on the very next pitch and was promptly ejected by home plate umpire Marcus Patillo. Fort Wayne manager Doug Dascenzo argued the ejection and also was ejected by Patillo.

Osuna (9-9) was charged with the loss, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) through four innings, walking eight and striking out one.

The Loons' magic number is now three after Dayton's loss to South Bend; any combination of three Great Lakes wins or Dayton losses will result in the Loons' first playoff berth.

The Loons' eight-game homestand continues Friday night at Dow Diamond against the South Bend Silver Hawks. Right-hander JonMichael Redding (14-3, 4.82 ERA), tied for the league-lead in wins, will start for the Loons against righty Brett Moorhouse (5-12, 4.41). Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
