Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (August 26, 2009) - The Burlington Bees were looking to extend their winning streak to seven games Thursday night but due to rain at Community Field, the Bees will have to wait another day to try to extend the streak. With the Bees leading Wisconsin 4-0 in the fourth inning, the tarp was placed on the field and heavy rain continued until the decision was made to cancel the game.

The Bees scored the first run of the ballgame in the first inning. With one out, Adrian Ortiz singled and then moved to third on a David Wood base-hit. Jason Taylor then singled to score Ortiz and give the Bees a 1-0 lead.

The Bees put another three runs on the board in the second inning. With two outs, Patrick Norris tripled. Ortiz then walked and stole second. Wood came up to the plate and singled, which scored both Norris and Ortiz. After Ortiz moved to second on a throw, Taylor singled to score Wood, which gave the Bees a 4-0 lead.

Ivor Hodgson got the start and was rolling until the game was cancelled. Hodgson pitched 4.2 no-hit innings with three strikeouts and one walk. With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, the rain became too heavy to continue on and the tarp was put on the field. With the game scheduled to be the final meeting this season between the Bees and the Timber Rattlers, the game cannot be made up. The statistics from the game will not count either.

The Bees will travel to Beloit on Friday to open a four-game series with the Snappers. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 and the game can be heard on Country Legends 1360 and also online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return home for their final home series in the regular season on Wednesday when they welcome the Clinton LumberKings to Community Field. The LumberKings currently trail the Bees by four games for the final playoff spot. Tickets can be purchased by logging onto www.GoBees.com, by calling (319) 754-5705 or by visiting Community Field.
