Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three home runs accounted for all the scoring in Tuesday's series finale and Baseball in Education Day, as Andrew Lambo's solo shot and Chris McGuiness' two-run blast overpowered Brandon Laird's two-run HR to lift the Indianapolis Indians (17-8) to a 3-2 win and 3-1 series victory over the Syracuse Chiefs (11-14) at Victory Field. Each of the four games in the tightly-contested series were settled by just one run, highlighted by the Tribe's 6-5 walkoff win on Saturday night.

Indianapolis jumped on opposing starter Taylor Hill from the word "go," as Lambo, who was slotted into the No. 3 hole in the lineup, turned on the fourth pitch of his at-bat to deposit a solo shot over the right field wall that gave Indy a 1-0 lead. The longball was the first of the season for the slugging outfielder, and his first MiLB homer since Aug. 22, 2013 at Rochester.

The lead would prove to be short lived however, as Syracuse waited until the top of the second before answering with a two-run big fly from Laird that pushed the Chiefs ahead 2-1.

Both clubs then traded zeros through the fifth frame, with Tribe starter Adam Wilk navigating though his 6.1 solid innings of only five hits and two runs allowed, until McGuiness struck for the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth.

The Tribe's one-run lead was held in check as Duke Welker slammed the door by retiring the side in order in the ninth.
