Chiefs Overcome Late Rallies to Win in Ten

Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Despite two more multi-hit efforts from RF Gregory Polanco and 1B Andrew Lambo, a 10th inning rally fell just short as the Syracuse Chiefs held on for a 6-5 win over the Indianapolis Indians on Monday night at Victory Field.

Polanco got things started on the right foot for the Tribe as he drove home LF Chase d'Arnaud with an RBI grounder in the first frame to give the Indians a 1-0 advantage.

Syracuse then powered into a 5-1 lead with a solo home run from C Jhonatan Solano in the top of the second and a two-run blast from LF Jose Lozada as part of a four-run rally in the fourth.

Lambo, however, led the Tribe back into contention with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth, before coming plateward himself when C Nevin Ashley followed with a base hit later in the frame to cut the lead to 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth a lead-off triple from SS Michael Martinez and wild pitch from Syracuse allowed the Indians to send the game to extras. After the Chiefs plated a score in the top of the 10th, Lambo again tried to lead the Tribe on the comeback trail with a one-out double. However, the Chiefs were able to induce a game-ending double play to hold on for the 6-5 win.
