April 29, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost a 3-2 decision to the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday afternoon from Victory Field. All five runs in the game were scored on home runs, as the teams played the fourth one-run game of their four-game series. Syracuse finished its eight-game road trip at Louisville and Indianapolis at 4-4.
Indianapolis (17-8) used the game's first long ball to get on the board first. Right fielder Andrew Lambo, the third batter of the game, drilled a two-out pitch from Taylor Hill over the right-field wall for a first-inning solo home run, giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.
Syracuse (11-14) would answer immediately in the second. Brock Peterson singled to lead off the frame against left-hander Adam Wilk. After a strikeout, third baseman Brandon Laird bashed Wilk's first pitch onto the berm in left-center field for a two-run homer, putting the Chiefs ahead by a run.
That lead held until the sixth inning, when the Indians rallied against Hill. Lambo led off the inning with a single, and two batters later, first baseman Chris McGuiness launched a two-run home run to right field on a 3-0 pitch. That gave Indianapolis a 3-2 lead, which the Indians would hold until the final out.
Syracuse next returns to NBT Bank Stadium to begin an eight-game homestand against the Toledo Mud Hens, starting on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Right-hander Omar Poveda is scheduled to start for the Chiefs.
