
Lightning Reassign Mike Vernace to Admirals

TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned defenseman Mike Vernace (vuhr-NAYS) to the Admirals today, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced.
Vernace, 6-foot, 216 pounds, was most recently recalled on February 15 and played in two games with the Lightning. During that time he recorded his first NHL point with an assist in 10:44 of ice time against Philadelphia on the same day as his recall. Vernace has played in 10 games with Tampa Bay this season, averaging 8:42 in ice time and recording an assist. He has played in 22 career NHL games with the Lightning and Colorado Avalanche.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Vernace has skated in 45 games with the Admirals this season, recording six goals and 20 points. He leads all team defensemen in points and ranks second for goals and power-play goals. In 281 career American Hockey League games between Norfolk, Hamilton, Lake Erie and Albany, Vernace has scored 15 goals and 91 points.
Vernace was signed by the Lightning as a free agent on July 29, 2010. He was originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round, 201st overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The Admirals will battle the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight and tomorrow nights at Scope. Tonight is Hall of Fame Induction Night, as Ajay Baines and Steve Poapst will be inducted into the Admirals Hall of Fame in a pre-game ceremony.
