Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Devils erased a three-goal deficit with less than 10 minutes to play, to defeat the Worcester Sharks, 5-4, Friday in front of 5,521 fans at the Times Union Center. Recently acquired Steve Zalewski scored the game-winning goal with 4.9 seconds remaining, giving Albany its third win in four outings.

The Devils celebrated "GE Kids-In-Free Day" allowing children 12-and-under free admission. Fans were treated to four unanswered goals in the second half of the final period to move Albany's record to 21-29-0-3. The Sharks go to 25-20-2-6.

Zalewski's goal came after Worcester took a bench penalty with 27 seconds remaining. Chad Wisemanfound Matt Anderson atop the left face-off circle. His shot went wide, but Zalewski grabbed the puck off the end boards and roofed it for his third goal in four games.

"It was crazy going from down 4-1 and making a great comeback - even in the last 10 seconds going from a d-zone draw to a power play in their end - so to score was great," Zalewski said.

The Devils comeback began moments after Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond dropped the gloves with Frazer McLaren at 10:39 of the third. Brad Mills intercepted a pass and scored on a breakaway 17 seconds later.

"I think Pierre's fight and the goal right after definitely boasted our confidence," Mills said. "There was a definite momentum swing that we could feel. We thought we could come back and we did."

From there, Matt Anderson scored on the power play at 12:40 and Adam Henrique scored with 54 seconds remaining with the Devils net empty.

"The game plan in the third was to just stay with it defensively," Henrique said. "We tried to capitalize on our chances and in the third I think we did that."

Anderson, Henrique, Zalewski and Stephen Gionta, who scored the team's first goal at 12:46 of the second, each had a goal and an assist. Wiseman led all scorers with three helpers.

The Sharks used a pair of goals from Jonathan Cheechoo (1:37 of the second and 8:27 of the third) and tallies from Jamie McGinn (5:53 of the second) and Justin Braun (17:31 of the second) to establish their lead.

Dave Caruso registered 26 saves for back-to-back wins.

After a 7:05 game at Binghamton on Saturday, Feb. 19, the Devils return to the Times Union Center for a 4 p.m. Time Warner Cable Cup game against Adirondack. Fans can attend the game for $10 or $5 when they show their Time Warner Cable bill.
