Bakersfield Condors News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - Josh Liebenow scored the go-ahead goal at 12:07 of the third period and the Bakersfield Condors made it stand up as they beat the Stockton Thunder, 3-2, Friday night, in front of 8,379 at Stockton Arena.

Liebenow's sixth game-winning goal of the season came off a centering feed from Brett Lutes.

Stockton (20-12-8, 48 points) scored first just 2:35 into the game. Off a face-off in the Condors end, Mike Lalonde beat Jamie Hodson to make it 1- 0.

The Condors (26-12-5, 57 points) responded shortly thereafter on the power-play. Todd Griffith blasted a one- timer past Cam Ellsworth at 5:03 to tie it up, with assists going to Tyler Scott and Kevin Truelson.

At 18:48 of the first period, Lalonde was hooked from behind by Sean Venedam, but still managed to get a breakaway and a shot on goal which Hodson stopped. Inexplicably, referee Adam Hendren awarded a penalty shot, but Hodson stopped Lalonde on that attempt too. It was the first penalty shot against the Condors since April 7 last year, when Ryan Munce stopped a Stockton shooter.

Bakersfield took the lead in the second, when Scott Balan took a feed from Steve Rodberg and wristed the puck past a screened Ellsworth at 7:32.

But back came Stockton, and again it was Lalonde. This time, on a five-on-three advantage, he fired a shot that glanced off the right post and into the net to make it 2-2 at 11:05. That set the stage for the third period and Liebenow's heroics.

Notes: Hodson is now 8-1-1 in his last ten outings, and 20-5-3 overall. He has now matched his career-high in victories which he set in 2001-02 with South Carolina.

The Condors now return to The Nest for a five- game homestand, beginning with a visit from the Toledo Storm on Wednesday, February 7th at 7 p.m. It will be a CW Bakersfield and 106.1 KRAB Radio High School/College ID Night, and all high school and college students can get a ticket to the game for just a buck with their student ID.
