Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Trenton Titans 4-2 in front of 5,754 fans at the Nutter Center on Saturday night.

The Bombers were looking to make it two in a row after their big 6-3 win over the Nailers on Friday night, but the Trenton Titans came into the Nutter Center frustrated by a 4-1 loss to Cincinnati on Friday. Early on they took out that frustration on the Bombers to take the lead. Titans leading scorer Mike Pandolfo gave Trenton the early lead by lifting a rebound up under the crossbar and over the shoulders of Bombers starter Adam Berkhoel to make it 1-0 at the 3:39 mark of the first period. The Bombers put pressure on Titans starter Joel Martin throughout the first and with less than a minute remaining that strategy would pay off.

Following a huge penalty kill on a Titans five on three power play, the Bombers tied up the game with less than a minute remaining. Yannick Tifu slid a crisp pass under the pads of Martin and right to Matt Herneisen, who buried the puck to tie the game at 1-1 at the 19:01 mark of the first period.

Having taken over the momentum of the game with the late goal, the Bombers continued to out play the Titans into the second period. Paul Kelly gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead by crashing the net and deflecting a picture perfect pass by Petr Pohl at the 15:08 mark of the second. Less than two minutes later, the Titans answered right back when James Pemberton fired a shot into the top corner of Berkhoel's net to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams had their chances in the final two minutes, but the game stayed tied after 40 minutes of play.

The Bombers were hoping to have a repeat performance of a three goal third period after doing so in the 6-3 win on Friday, but the Titans were very sound defensively and Martin made a number of key saves to keep the game tied. Not to be out done however was Adam Berkhoel who also had to make his share of saves during the third period. Jim Henkel broke the tie for the Titans with just under four minutes to play to give the Titans a 3-2 lead. Les Haggett then added an empty net goal in the Bombers attempt to tie the game and Trenton sealed the victory 4-2.

The Bombers are now 21-13-4 overall and 10-7-2 at home. They will now head on the road for three games with the Wheeling Nailers, Columbia Inferno and South Carolina Stingrays this week. The Bombers return to the Nutter Center on Tuesday, February 13, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Toledo Storm. The game against Toledo will be another 2 for Tuesday's sponsored by Prestige Ford.
