'Blades win 4-3 OT thriller over Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA -The Florida Everblades (26-14-2) picked up a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over the Augusta Lynx's (25-20-2) on Saturday night at James Brown Arena in front of a crowd of a noisy crowd of 3,382.

A fast paced first period saw each team tally a pair of goals. The Everblades opened the scoring with an even strength goal by Adam Taylor when David Brine's centering feed banked off him and past Lynx net minder Dave McKee at 7:38. Ernie Hartlieb picked up the second assist on the goal that gave the Everblades a 1-0 lead. Augusta answered with the next two goals, including Louis Goulet scoring 20 seconds after Taylor to tie the game at one at 7:58 of the opening period.

The Lynx grabbed the lead shortly after when Brian Passmore tallied a power play goal at 9:22 by having a pass bank off his skate and past Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski. The Everblades responded with a power play tally of their own when Dustin Johner picked up a rebound in the crease and slid it past McKee at 12:15 of the frame. Frank MacDonald and Jon Lehun picked up the assists on Johner's 18th goal of the season.

Each team notched third period goals, with the Everblades briefly grabbing the lead just 1:09 into the period on Derek Damon's eighth goal of the season by lifting a backhand shot over the left shoulder of McKee and under the cross bar. Jon Lehun added the assist on the goal. The Everblades remained on top by one until the seven minute mark when Garrett Bembridge fired a slap shot from the left circle past Kowalski to even the score at three.

The remainder of regulation took on a playoff type feel with both teams rushing end-to-end with chances. Neither team however could net the game winner in regulation, moving the contest into overtime. In the five-minute overtime period, the Everblades tallied on a delayed penalty against the Lynx. Rookie Jarret Lukin tallied his first professional goal by slipping a shot into an open Augusta net with McKee out of position. The winning goal came 2:03 into the extra period with Brad Zancanaro and Brett Peterson picking up the assists as the Lynx argued with the officials that the play should have been stopped because of a hand pass. After a conference, the goal was allowed and gave the Everblades a 2-1-1 on their four game road trip.

Kowalski earned the win in goal by stopping 25 of 28 shots which increased his record to 15-7-1, while McKee picked up credit for a tie by stopping 37 of 41 shots, but saw his record drop to 19-9-1.

On the power play, the Everblades finished off the night 2-for-6, while the Lynx closed out the night 1-for-3.
