Lessard Named AHL Player of the Week
January 9, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The American Hockey League's Iowa Stars today received word that right wing Junior Lessard was named the CCM Vector AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 8th, 2006.
Signed as a Free Agent by the Dallas Stars on April 14th, 2004, the 25-year old right wing registered three goals, including the game-winner on Saturday, three assists and a âplus 2' rating in two Iowa Stars games this past week: 2(3/3/6)+2. In Thursday's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee, Junior potted the Stars second goal of the game. In Saturday's 5-1 win over the Wolves in Chicago, the 6-0, 200-pound winger had a hand in ALL five of Iowa's goals, notching two goals and assisting on the other three, and in doing so set a new team record for points in a single game. The former 2004 Hobey Baker Award winner also set a new record with four points in a single period. His second tally of the game proved to be the game-winner, his third of the season.
"It's nice to receive the recognition, but it's really a team effort", commented Lessard. He went on to say, "that the team has been playing well of late, especially his linemates, Toby Petersen and Loui Eriksson, and they deserve just as much of the recognition".
Iowa Stars Head Coach Dave Allison echoed Lessard's comments, "It's a well deserved honor for him and his linemates. All three have been playing well the past few games and Saturday was just an example of it".
In recognition of his achievement, Lessard will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Iowa Stars home game.
NEXT GAME: The Iowa Stars return home to Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday, January 10th to host the Cleveland Barons. The 2 for 1 Tuesday game will have a 7:05 PM face-off. Bring a valid Military, College, or High School ID and receive two $21 tickets for the price of one. Doors open for all games, one-hour before face-off. Ticketing information can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS or visiting iowastarshockey.com.
