Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have traded defenseman Brad Tiley to the San Antonio Rampage in return for future considerations. Springfield will receive defenseman Ray Schultz on loan from the Phoenix Coyotes and Schultz is expected to arrive in Springfield on Tuesday.

"For personal reasons this is a tough deal to make because I have tremendous respect for Brad Tiley," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "However, when you are in the middle of a slump you need to look at changes that may help you turn the corner and I certainly don't expect this to be the only change that will be made. We wish nothing but the best for Brad in San Antonio."

Tiley has played in 30 games for the Falcons this season collecting one goal and nine assists for 10 points. The Markdale, Ontario native recently played in his 1,000th professional game on January 4 in Albany and the 15-year veteran remains fifth on the Falcons all-time games played list with 239.

Schultz joins the Falcons after playing in 16 games for San Antonio this season collecting one goal, one assist and 28 penalty minutes. Schultz started the season with the Albany River Rats recording five assists and 22 penalty minutes in 18 games played.

"In Schultz we are getting more of a defensive minded defenseman who can be very physical and tough to play against but who is also able to move the puck," said Landon. "He also brings with him a tremendous amount of experience both at the AHL and NHL levels."

Schultz and Tiley were teammates during the 2003-04 season winning a Calder Cup Championship with the Milwaukee Admirals. Schultz is in his ninth season of professional hockey and was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators with their eighth choice (184th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound blueliner has played in 422 career AHL games collecting 12 goals and 61 assists for 73 points with 1,136 penalty minutes.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, January 11 when they host the Hershey Bears at the MassMutual Center starting at 7:05 PM. All games can be heard live on the Falcons Hockey Network, WMAS AM 1450, as "The Voice" of the Falcons John Michael handles the play-by-play duties. All games can also be seen live through the B-2 Network for only $6.00.
