Stars' forward Junior Lessard named CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week
January 9, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Iowa Stars right wing Junior Lessard has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 8, 2006. In two games, Lessard scored three goals and three assists, including a five point eruption on Saturday against the Wolves.
After being held to one goal in a 4-2 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday, Lessard scored two goals and added three assists, figuring into all five Iowa goals as the Stars dominated the Wolves 5-1 in Chicago. The five points set a new Stars record for points in a game. Four of his points came in the second period, which also set a Stars record for points in a single period. His second goal of that game would prove to be the game winning goal.
In recognition of his achievement, Lessard will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Stars home game.
A native of St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec, the 25-year-old is now second on the Stars in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 22 games. Lessard is in his second professional season after spending four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and was the winner of the 2004 Hobey Baker Award.
Other nominees for CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week include Albany right wing Alexsander Suglobov, Binghamton left wing Grant Potulny, Bridgeport goaltender Cody Rudkowski, Chicago defenseman Braydon Coburn, Cleveland right wing Steve Bernier, Grand Rapids left wing Valtteri Filppula, Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis, Hartford left wing Chad Wiseman, Houston center Patrick O'Sullivan, Lowell center Krystofer Kolanos, Manitoba right wing Jesse Schultz, Milwaukee center Kris Beech, Peoria left wing Peter Sejna, Philadelphia center Matt Ellison, Providence defenseman Michael Schutte, Syracuse center Peter Sarno, Toronto left wing Tyler Beechey and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Dany Sabourin.
