Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends survived three late-inning threats and held on for a 4-2 win over the Rome Braves Friday night. It was the Legends' second straight win over the Braves and fourth in a row overall.

Lexington took the lead on Adam Bailey's two-run single in the third inning. Delino DeShields Jr. doubled with one out, and Jiovanni Mier walked. Both moved up a base on a wild pitch before Bailey's single to right field brought them home.

The Braves scored a run in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Robby Hefflinger and a single by Edward Salcedo.

The Legends added single runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Jordan Scott started the fifth inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Scott went to third on another wild pitch, one which allowed DeShields to reach first after a third strike. DeShields stole second, and when catcher Christian Betancourt's throw went into center field for an error, Scott scored. In the sixth, Mike Kvasnicka and Enrique Hernandez started the inning with back-to-back singles. Kvasnicka advanced to third after Tyler Burnett's fly ball to center field, and later scored on a wild pitch.

Rome had two men on with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but the Legends' infield turned a shortstop-to-second-to-first double play to end the inning.

The Braves scored once in the eighth and had the bases loaded with two out when Mier, the shortstop, made a leaping catch of a line drive hit by David Rohm to end the inning.

In the ninth, the first two batters reached against Legends' reliever Gabriel Garcia, but he worked through the next three on a force play, a strikeout and a fly ball to center field to end the game.

Starter Carlos Quevedo (5-3) allowed seven hits in seven innings to get the win. Garcia earned his second save of the year. Rome starter Caleb Brewer (4-4) was the losing pitcher.

The series continues Saturday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
