Eveland's Hit Tops Hoppers in 12

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 18, 2011) -- Kyle Eveland dropped a bloop single into centerfield to score Dan Black from third base as the Kannapolis Intimidators edged the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 1-0, in 12 innings on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The game- winning hit was Eveland's second of the season and the second 12- inning game for the Intimidators this week.

Intimidators starter Spencer Arroyo pitched a career-best nine scoreless innings but did not earn a decision. Arroyo, who went at least seven scoreless inning to begin a game in his second straight start, gave up just three hits and no walks while striking out four. Jake Wilson tossed a scoreless 10th inning, and Nick McCully (1-0) worked perfect 11th and 12th innings to earn the win.

Black led off the bottom of the 12th drawing a walk from Hoppers reliever Jordan Conley and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Kevin Dubler's ground out advanced Black to third, setting up Eveland's heroics with two outs on a 1-1 pitch.

Grasshoppers starter Jay Rogers entered the game with the third-lowest ERA in the South Atlantic League, at 2.73, and worked five shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four batters. Rogers dropped his ERA to 2.52 without taking a decision in his 10th start of the year. Conley (1-1) took the loss for Greensboro.
