Rome, GA -The Lexington Legends defeated the Rome Braves 14-10 Saturday night in front of 4,093 fans at State Mutual Stadium. Rome will try to avoid the four game sweep tomorrow afternoon.
In the top of the first Lexington poured on six runs thanks in part to RBI doubles by Adam Bailey and Tyler Burnett. Rome would manage to score once in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Robert Hefflinger making it a 6-1 ballgame. The Legends comfortable lead would be short lived as Rome would have a six run inning of their own. In the bottom of the second Evan Gattis (5) homered to lead off the inning and Kyle Davis, Kyle Rose, and Jakob Dalfonso would all contribute with RBI singles to put Rome on top 7-6.
The seesaw game would continue with two more lead changes before the eighth inning as Rome took a 9-8 lead into the top of the eighth. Lexington would take the lead in the top half of the eighth thanks to a bases loaded RBI single by Enrique Hernandez followed by a sacrifice fly by Chris Wallace to give the Legends a 10-9 advantage. Rome would push across a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game 10-10 after pinch runner Hilton Richardson scored on a David Rohm sacrifice fly.
The tie would hold and take the game into extra innings but a bases loaded throwing error by Elmer Reyes in the top of the tenth allowing two runs to score to give Lexington a 12-10 lead. Lexington added two more runs in the inning and would shut the door in the bottom of the tenth ending the game with a 14-10 score.
