Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets and Asheville Tourists were suspended by rain after four innings on Saturday night with the GreenJackets leading 4-0. The game will be resumed at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon with the teams meeting in the regularly-scheduled seven-inning contest to follow.
Heavy winds and rain pelted the playing surface at Lake Olmstead Stadium throughout the bottom of the fourth inning and by the time the inning ended, conditions worsened to the point where play was no longer feasible. After a 40-minute delay, the game was suspended.
The GreenJackets got an early lead with four straight hits to open the second inning. With the bases loaded, Ryan Scoma doubled home a pair to put the GreenJackets up 2-0. Joel Weeks followed with a sacrifice fly to cap the three-run inning.
Augusta added another in the third on a Devin Harris RBI double and two more on Carlos Willoughby's two-run home run in the fourth to go up 6-0.
Taylor Rogers allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings in his final tune-up before Tuesday's All-Star Game.
Fans can redeem their ticket stubs from this contest for a ticket for any future GreenJackets game in the 2011 season, with the exception of July 3rd and 4th. The regularly scheduled postgame Fireworks show from Saturday's contest will be rescheduled for later in the season.
When play resumes on Sunday, the teams will play Saturday's game to nine innings while the regularly-scheduled Sunday game becomes a seven-inning contest. That game will come 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game. Play resumes at 3:00 with pregame coverage beginning at 2:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
Single-game tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
