Legends' Stein honored by JA, UK Alumni Association and Omaha Press Club

Lexington Legends' president and chief executive officer Alan Stein has been honored recently by three organizations.

Stein was inducted into the Junior Achievement Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame June 3 along with Richard W. Furst, former dean of the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics; Phil Greer, a former teacher and coach who built successful real estate and restaurant businesses; and Isabel Yates, former vice mayor of Lexington who has served in many leadership positions in various civic organizations.

The inductees all were recognized not only for their own business success, but also for their involvement in improving the quality of life in the Bluegrass, their service to the community, and as role models for youth.

Stein and his wife, State Senator Kathy Stein, were honored May 9 as "Hometown Heroes" by the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. In addition to Alan's success in bringing minor league baseball to Lexington and Senator Stein's service in the legislature, they were recognized for their philanthropic efforts on behalf of many organizations, including, among others, the United Way of the Bluegrass, YMCA and the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.

The Omaha Press Club honored Stein with a "roasting and toasting" in Omaha May 25. Stein, who also is president of the Omaha Storm Chasers, a triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, was recognized for his leadership in the construction of a new ballpark in suburban Sarpy County. The Storm Chasers' new home, Werner Park, opened this season. A caricature of Stein, which depicted him wearing a Storm Chasers cap and cufflinks engraved with a "K" as a tribute to his Kentucky roots, is on display as the 129th "Face on the Barroom Floor," a tradition of the Omaha Press Club. Other "Faces" include Nebraska natives Johnny Carson and Dick Cavett, sports greats Bob Gibson and Gale Sayers, and Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett, who is also a part owner of the Storm Chasers.

"While I am always honored and humbled by these recognitions, I am fully cognizant that I get way more credit than I deserve," said Stein. "The successes we've generated over the years are all collaborative efforts with great partners like Brad Redmon and Bill Shea and, of course the teams of terrific staffs in each one of our companies, led by folks like Andy Shea, Martie Cordaro and Kevin Kulp. As I accept these honors, I tip my cap to my friends and family, partners and teammates for all that they have, and continue to do to make our communities better."

"Alan's a true role model for me and has been an enormous piece of my personal and professional growth, said Legends General Manager Andy Shea. " The JA and UK Alumni awards are huge honors and well deserved, but it's amazing that our company has only been in Omaha for four years, and he has already made the impact in that market that he has. It goes to show that Alan makes the people around him better no matter how much time he has."
