Three Home Runs Lift Suns To 7-3 Win Over Shorebirds

Hagerstown, Md. - Hagerstown Suns right fielder Kevin Keys belted two home runs and drove in four to lift the Suns past the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-3 at Municipal Stadium on Saturday night. The Suns plated seven unanswered runs beginning in the fourth inning to top the Shorebirds, who went without a run in the final five innings.

The Shorebirds were first to strike in the second. Adam Gaylord doubled to deep left field to open the inning. After moving to third on a Mikey Planeta sacrifice bunt, Gaylord scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Justin Dalles. With Planeta at third, Ty Kelly grounded towards second and beat the double play throw to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead.

The Shorebirds added a run in the fourth inning on a Kelly sacrifice fly that scored Dalles.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kevin Keys hit a two-out three run homer over the right field wall to tie the game at 3-3.

The Suns took the lead in the fifth as Michael Taylor, who led off with a double, scored a passed ball by Dalles.

In the sixth inning, Jason Martinson and Kevin Keys hit back-to-back home runs to build the lead to 6-3. The Suns tacked on a seventh unanswered run in the seventh inning. Blake Kelso singled to score Sean Nicol.

Suns starter Jordan Taylor won his seventh game of the season in six innings. He allowed eight hits and two earned runs. Shorebirds starter Luis Noel was saddled with the loss over five innings.

The Shorebirds and Suns play the first half finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
