Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown, MD - On the strength of a two-home run performance from RF Kevin Keyes and a four-bagger off the bat of DH Jason Martinson, the Hagerstown Suns (39-30) bested the Delmarva Shorebirds (35-34) at Municipal Stadium on Saturday night by a score of 7-3.

Suns RHP Taylor Jordan (7-3), despite getting tagged for three runs in four innings, was the winning pitcher, going 6.0 innings while surrendering three runs, two of them earned, on eight hits, amidst one walk and two strikeouts.

The Shorebirds earned run number one in the 2nd inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from C Justin Dalles on a terrific diving catch from Keyes, who laid out into the right center field alley way and held onto the ball while crashing to the playing surface. 3B Adam Gaylord scored, who led the inning off with a double into the left center field gap. Delmarva supplemented their first run with an RBI fielder's choice to second base off the lumber of LF Ty Kelly.

The ‘birds added an insurance run in the 4th frame when Kelly lofted a Jordan offering for an RBI flyout to left field scoring Dalles, who lashed a single through the left side to get aboard.

The Suns tied the contest with one fell swoop, as with two on base and two outs in the 4th inning, Keyes sat back and drove a pitch from RHP Luis Noel (4-7), the losing pitcher of record, over the right field barrier for a three-run home run just inside the right field foul pole. Noel tossed 5.0 innings and allowed four runs, three earned on five hits, while walking three and faning three.

Hagerstown took the lead in the 5th stanza after CF Michael Taylor tattooed a double up the left field chalk. Noel balked Taylor to third base, and a passed ball through Dalles gave the Suns the go-ahead run.

The hosting club tallied two more runs in the 6th frame with two outs off LHP Ashur Tolliver on back-to-back solo jacks. First, Martinson hooked a high arching drive off the left field foul pole for his fifth long shot of the season. The next batter, Keyes, a 7th round selection in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas, crushed a long ball into the visiting bullpen. This was the first individual multi-home run game of the season and also the first contest in which members of the Suns lineup hit back-to-back homers.

One run in the 7th frame for Hagerstown on an RBI single by SS Blake Kelso put the game out of reach for Delmarva.

RHP Wilson Eusebio (3 SV) got this third save of the season after relieving Jordan with three scoreless innings in which he surrendered two hits and three walks, while striking out three.

The Suns final game of the first half on Father's Day will be a Sunday 1:05pm first pitch. The radio flagship of the Hagerstown Suns, WJEJ AM 1240, will provide wall-to-wall radio coverage beginning with a 12:50pm Break Away 2 Sports Lounge Pre-game Show. The Suns will summon LHP Sammy Solis (1-0, 3.47) to face Delmarva RHP Scott Copeland (4-4, 4.78).
