June 18, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped their 3rd straight game to the West Virginia Power and their 9th straight game on the road by a final of 6-2 on Friday. Lakewood has now guaranteed they will end the First Half of 2011 with a losing record. That snaps a 10 half streak of winning streaks for Lakewood. The last time they finished below .500 in a half was the First Half of 2006. The BlueClaws also committed a season high 6 errors in the ballgame.

Jim Murphy and Jeff Lanning each hit solo HR's for Lakewood as they were only able to collect 4 hits total against some stellar pitching for West Virginia. Zach Collier and Edgar Duran had the only other hits for Lakewood.

Tyler Waldron started for the Power and threw a very good ballgame. He allowed only 2 runs on the 2 solo shots by Murphy and Lanning, 3 hits in all, and struck out 4 over 7 innings to pick up his 6th win of the year. Relievers Casey Sadler and Jason Towsend each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for West Virginia.

Lakewood starter Ervis Manzanillo pitched ok allowing 3 runs/2 earned on 5 hits over 5 1/3rd innings. It was 3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th when reliever Juan Sosa got hit hard for 4 hits and 3 runs in the frame. Then Lakewood went 1-2-3 in the 9th to end the game.

The same 2 teams will be back at it tomorrow for the 4th and final game of their 4 game series, as well as the final game of the First Half for both teams as well. It will be a matchup of 2 highly touted Pitchers with LHP Jesse Biddle starting for Lakewood and RHP Jameson Taillon throwing for West Virginia. Biddle was the 27th overall pick last June by the Phillies and Taillon was the 2nd overall pick last June by the Pirates. First Pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 2:05 pm.
