Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends didn't record a hit through five innings against Lake County starting pitcher Ryan Morris, but broke through for three runs against the Captains' bullpen to win their first game of the series 3-2.

The Legends were down one run in the eighth inning when Craig Corrado led off the inning with a walk from reliever Garrett Reick. Eric Taylor bunted Corrado to second base, and Corrado stole third. Lake County catcher Douglas Pickens's throw to third base escaped the Lake County third baseman, allowing Corrado to score the game-tying run. Brian Pellegrini followed the error with a single and moved to second on Kyle Miller's groundout. Jonathan Fixler then drove his second run home of the game with a single to left field to give Lexington the lead.

Both starting pitchers had the best of their opponent's offense through five innings. Jeff Icenogle held Lake County scoreless through five while allowing six hits and four walks and striking out eight batters. As impressive as Icenogle was, Ryan Morris did him one better. Morris held the Legends hitless through five and just walked two batters while striking out seven.

The scoreless tie was erased in the sixth inning when Lake County rallied for a single run against Carlos Ladeuth. Douglas Pickens walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on Ron Rivas's single. Adam White grounded into a force out that erased Pickens at third but moved Rivas to second. Ladeuth appeared to escape the jam when he picked Ron Rivas off second base, but the Lake County rally wasn't finished. Mark Thompson followed Ladeuth's pickoff with a double to right field, scoring White from first.

The Legends tied the game in the bottom half of the inning after recording their first hit of the game off Lake County reliever Josh Judy. Eric Taylor singled to lead off the inning and moved to second base on Brian Pellegrini's walk. Kyle Miller grounded into a double play, erasing Pellegrini at second, but Taylor was able to move to third on the play. Jonathan Fixler followed with his first RBI of the game on a single to left field.

Lake County didn't let the Lexington rally kill their momentum as they responded with a single run in the seventh to take the lead. Consecutive doubles from Roman Pena and Richard Martinez plated the go-ahead run for Lake County before Lexington took the lead for good in the eighth.

Carlos Ladeuth retired the Captains in order in the ninth to finish off his sixth win of the season. The six wins tie Ladeuth with Anthony Bello for the Legends' lead.

The two teams play Tuesday in the final game of the four-game series at 7:05 p.m.
