
Jackets Secure Series Win over Sand Gnats

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 28-15) matched a season high mark with their seventh straight home win with a 4-1 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats (33-37, 20-22) Monday night. Juan Ciriaco drove in two runs and starter Chance Corgan picked up the win.
Nick Noonan broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a one-out solo homer over the right-field wall, his fifth home run of the season.
Corgan (3-4) worked five innings allowing one run on seven hits. Corgan did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Wilmin Rodriguez recorded his first save of the season with four shutout innings in relief allowing just one hit, two walks and striking out three.
Augusta added single runs in the sixth and seventh inning for a 4-1 lead. James Simmons came through with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning scoring Thomas Neal for a 3-1 lead.
In the seventh inning Ciriaco connected for a one-out RBI single scoring Noonan to put Augusta up 4-1.
The one run Corgan allowed was a solo home run by Carlos Guzman to lead off the fifth inning that tied the game at 1-1.
The GreenJackets took the early lead in the first inning when Noonan walked with one out then stole second to get into scoring position for Ciriaco who connected for an RBI single giving Augusta a 1-0 lead.
The GreenJackets and Sand Gnats finish their series Tuesday night with Augusta looking for the four game sweep and sends lefty Scott Barnes (0-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first home start of the season. Savannah counters with right-hander Eric Beaulac (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
The GreenJackets improved to 18-5 at home in the second half of the season, 38-20 at home overall.
The GreenJackets have a 3.5 game in lead in the Southern Division.
The GreenJackets improved to 8-3 against Savannah this season.
Augusta had four more stolen bases on Monday night and are 12-for-12 in stealing bases over the past three games. James Simmons had two while Nick Noonan and Juan Ciriaco had one.
With an overall record of 69-43 (.616), Augusta has the second best winning percentage in all of Minor League Baseball among full season teams.
