Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

Greensboro, N.C. - Miss Babe Ruth and the Grasshoppers are inviting fans to bring their "best friends" to the ballgame on Tuesday, August 5 for "Babe's Bark in the Park" when Greensboro takes on Lakewood in a 7:00 p.m. game at NewBridge Bank Park. The annual canine event is the second-of-two the Hoppers will host this season and is being presented by Novartis Animal Health.

Fans can register their dogs at the Edgeworth Gate (left field) on the night of the event. A standard ticket to the game will be required for all humans and special "Pooch Passes" must be purchased for each dog with the proceeds from the canine tickets going to the Animal Rescue and Foster program of Greensboro.

"First off, we're very thankful and appreciative of our partnership with Novartis and their sponsorship of Babe," said President and General Manager Donald Moore. "Baseball is very much a family sport and Babe is just as much a part of the Hoppers family as other dogs are to theirs. This is a unique opportunity for the fans and it's always a treat to see owners and their ‘best friends' out on Natty's Hill enjoying the game."

A pre-game parade around the field will be held prior to the game beginning at 6:30 p.m. and all participants are encouraged to show up early to take part in the festivities. Along with a pre-game parade, contests will be held for the largest dog, owner and pet look-alikes, and most unique trick.

For tickets to "Babe's Bark in the Park" or more information about upcoming Grasshopper games, events and promotions, contact the Grasshoppers Box Office at 336-268.2255 or visit www.gsohoppers.com on the World Wide Web.

Babe's All-Star Collar Up for Grabs on eBay

Similar to the auctions for player jerseys following the 2008 South Atlantic League All-Star Shindig, Miss Babe Ruth's all-star collar is now on the blocks.

Fans can bid for the authentic game-worn collar on eBay (link listed below) that was donned by Miss Babe Ruth, the Greensboro Grasshoppers black Labrador Retriever and the youngest bat girl in Minor League Baseball. The collar has the all star and Grasshoppers logos on it as it was created specifically for Miss Babe Ruth to wear at the 2008 South Atlantic League All-Star game on June 17 at NewBridge Bank Park.

Proceeds from this auction will benefit the Animal Rescue and Foster Program (ARFP) of North Carolina based in Greensboro. ARFP is dedicated to helping abandoned puppies and kittens by providing temporary foster homes and medical care and places them in permanent adoptive homes with responsible pet owners.

Bidding for the collar will come to a close on the Saturday (Aug. 9) at 3:00 p.m. EDT.
