LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, the Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, will be hosting the first ever Surf Night in team history on Monday, August 11, presented by Surf Taco and Ergophobia. The event will benefit the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation.

Randazzo, who became the first and only New Jersey surfer to compete on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour, will be in attendance to throw out a first pitch and sign autographs. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2001 and has been battling the disease ever since. His foundation raises money for cancer research and awareness.

"I'm extremely excited for this event," Randazzo said. "Hopefully this will be the first step in a lasting partnership with the BlueClaws."

Randazzo will be joined by fellow pro surfers Shea Lopez, Matt Keenan, Luke Ditella and others at FirstEnergy Park for the 7:05 p.m. game with the Savannah Sand Gnats, the New York Mets affiliate.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting Surf Night this season," BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. "It is a rare opportunity that we get to bring an event as cool as this to FirstEnergy Park, in addition to helping out a very good cause."

Surf Taco will be selling food on the concourse, with full proceeds going to the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation. Ergophobia will also be giving away exclusive Surf Night t-shirts.

Surf shops from throughout the Jersey Shore will be set up throughout the ballpark along with local clothing and eyeware companies.

The BlueClaws return to Lakewood for eight games starting on Monday, as they take on the Mets and Yankees affiliates. Tickets still remain for all eight games.
