Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets much anticipated Brett Favre Night is tonight at Lake Olmstead Stadium and Brett Favre Night comes on the same day Favre was officially reinstated into the National Football League.

"I am not saying we knew what was happening or we were in contact with both Green Bay and the NFL over the last couple of weeks," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "I will say this though, I know a lot of people are happy that Favre is back and it makes tonight all that much more fun."

Favre's reinstatement comes on the same day that the GreenJackets plan on retiring the number four jersey in honor of the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback. Augusta also plans on handing out flip-flops that feature the number four to the first 100 fans that come through the gates in honor of Favre's flip-flop status of retiring and un-retiring.

The GreenJackets will also have two ceremonial first pitches today with Aaron Rodgers being on hand.

"It should be a fun night with a lot of laughs and everyone is real excited about the festivities," Brown said. "We tried real hard to get Favre to come down for the first pitch but obviously, he has to report to camp and get ready to play."

Favre, who announced his retirement on March 4, 2008, will officially be reinstated back to the NFL at 1:00 p.m. today making his retirement five months. It is still unknown whether or not the GreenJackets and Brown had a "bat line" that kept the team in contact with Favre and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on the whole time table with Favre's return since Augusta announced Brett Favre Night on July 17.

The GreenJackets still plan to retire the number four jersey tonight at Lake Olmstead Stadium, but will reinstate the number on Tuesday, August 5, just as they planned from the beginning.

Along with the number retiring ceremony and flip-flop giveaway, the GreenJackets also have several other promotions scheduled. Anyone wearing a Favre jersey to the game will be upgraded to box seating. Also, fans that come in wearing a cheese head will be given a coupon for a free brat at the concession stand.

Food specials will include brats and Pabst beer, and there will be on field contests that include the "Lambeau Leap" and the "Strahan Sack." There will also be an on field contest that allows fans to select the team they want to see Favre play for in the 2008-09 season.

Drafted 33rd overall in the 1991 draft by the Atlanta Falcons, Favre was traded to Green Bay on February 10, 1992 for the 19th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. Favre became the starting quarterback in the fourth game of the 1992 season and started every game up until his retirement.

The GreenJackets are currently playing a four game home stand against the Savannah Sand Gnats, Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Augusta has won the first two games of the series outscoring the Sand Gnats 19-6 and Augusta is currently in first place in the Southern Division with a 3.5 game lead.

The GreenJackets are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this season of baseball returning to Augusta. For information on tickets and all the promotions scheduled for this season call the GreenJackets at 706-922-WINS or visit www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
