Captains Streak Snapped, 3-2

(Lexington, KY) - Ryan Morris pitched five scoreless, hitless innings but the Lexington Legends scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to capture their first lead of the night and they hung on to defeat the Lake County Captains 3-2 on Monday. The loss snapped a five game winning streak by the Captains. The Captains scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning off of Legends reliever Carlos Ladeuth when with Adam White scored from first base on a ball hit by Mark Thompson that the right fielder lost in he lights and the Captains led 1-0. The Legends tied it up in the bottom of the sixth inning against Legends reliever Josh Judy when Jonathan Fixler singled home Eric Taylor and it was 1-1.

The Captains regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Roman Pena doubled and scored when Richard Martinez followed Pena with another double and the Captains were back on top 2-1. The Legends tied it up in the bottom of the eighth inning when Captains reliever Garrett Rieck walked Craig Corrado to start the inning. Corrado was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Corrado then stole second and scored when the throw to third went into left field. The Legend tacked on another run when Fixler drove in Brian Pellegrini and the Legends lead 3-2.

Morris did not get a decision walking two and striking out seven. Morris has not allowed a hit or a run in his last eleven innings of work. Judy came on in the sixth inning and pitched two innings giving up the one run. Rieck pitched the eighth inning and took the loss. Ladeuth picked up the win to up his record to 6-9.

The Captains and Legends wrap up the four game series on Tuesday at 7:05PM with the Captains sending LHP Ryan Miller (7-6, 2.92) to the mound against the Legends LHP Anthony Bello (6-5, 4.06). All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.

The Captains will return to Classic Park on Wednesday August 6th for a four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds. Wednesday will be a WIN BIG WEDNESDAY. The Captains will give away $1000 in cash and prizes as the first 1,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive an envelope containing anything from a dime to a certificate for $500 cash. WIN BIG WEDNESDAY will take place every Wednesday for the rest of the 2008 season.

Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
