Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - If the RiverDogs could pack up and move cross-state from Charleston to Greenville, they would probably take advantage of the opportunity. With a 15-0 victory Monday night, the RiverDogs (66-46, 21-21) have won all seven contests at Fluor Field this season, outscoring the Drive 67-17.
Having belted four homers in the each of the first two games of the series, the RiverDogs did not feel it necessary to cool off in game three, as they added five more round trippers - their 13 home runs is the most allowed by the Drive (60-53, 20-23) in a four-game series in Fluor Field's history, and there's still one game remaining.
Five Charleston batters tallied a home run and it was only fitting that Brandon Laird started the barrage in the second inning with his fourth long ball of the series. Abraham Almonte added a solo shot in the inning as the RiverDogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Making his Drive debut after mowing down New York-Penn League batters for the Lowell Spinners, Brock Huntzinger's (0-1) growing pains continued the next inning as Charleston scored three more times, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Justin Snyder and Bradley Suttle to leadoff the third.
The RiverDogs may not have hit a home run in the fourth or fifth frames, but they did record seven base hits, including three doubles, as they scored eight runs over the two inning span. Austin Krum capped Charleston's scoring in the eighth inning with a two-run homer.
Lost in the commotion of a surging offense was starting pitcher Wilkins De La Rosa's (7-3) outing. It wasn't until there was one out in the bottom of the sixth that the southpaw surrendered a hit, a single coming off the bat of Will Vazquez. De La Rosa lasted 7.0 scoreless innings, fanning five as he faced one batter over the minimum.
With his home on-base streak in doubt, David Mailman extended it to 22 straight games at Fluor Field with a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Foster tossed a scoreless ninth for Greenville and has only allowed one earned run in his last seven outings, a span of 10 innings.
The Drive and RiverDogs conclude their four-game series Tuesday night with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. South Atlantic League All-Star left-hander Felix Doubront will toe the rubber for Greenville as Charleston counters with right-hander Dellin Betances.
Upstate Fest continues tomorrow as well, the third installment of Green Day, celebrating the City of Greenville's 177th birthday. The Drive will also spotlight former Greenville Tech President, Dr. Tom Barton, who is the 2008 Green Day honoree. The conclusion of the game will be highlighted by a fireworks display.
