Legends Break Through for First Second-Half Win

Lexington, Ky. -- It took ten tries, but Lexington finally beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Brandon Barnes homered while extending his team-high 11 game hitting streak to lead the Legends to a 3-1 win. Carlos Ladeuth picked up the win with four shutout innings in relief of Anthony Bello.

Greensboro started the scoring in the third inning against rehabbing starting pitcher Anthony Bello. Bello, who was working on a limited pitch count in his second start since returning from the disabled list, pitched into the third inning before unraveling against the Greensboro offense. Emilio Ontiveros walked to lead off the inning, Daniel Garcia singled and Michael Stanton walked to load the bases. Manager Greg Langbehn pulled Bello in favor of Ladeuth who allowed a run to score on a wild pitch before striking Ryan Antsberger to end the inning. Antsberger had hit what appeared to be a grand slam in the at-bat, but the ball landed just a few feet foul.

Lexington took the lead in the fourth after Brian Pellegrini walked to lead off the inning. Max Sapp singled to move Pellegrini to second and Steve Brown advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. Russell Dixon drove Pellegrini home with an infield hit to the shortstop and Sapp scored on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Barnes. Ladeuth shut down the Greensboro offense over the next four innings to preserve the one run lead. He didn't surrender a hit and only walked one batter while striking out four in his four and one-third innings of work.

Steven Cishek replaced Stu Alexander as the Greensboro pitcher to begin the seventh inning and was greeted rudely by Brandon Barnes. Barnes lead-off the inning by launching his second home run of the season to left field. The Lexington right fielder had extended his season high hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the second inning. The eleven-game streak surpassed Matthew Cusick's ten game streak as the longest streak by a Legend this season.

Jay Powell pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

The victory was the first for Lexington in the second half and first against Greensboro in 2008. The Legends had dropped the previous nine contests to the Grasshoppers. The win also ended a season-long six game hitting streak.

The two teams meet Monday in the series finale at 7:05 p.m. Luis Pardo will make his first start of the season for Lexington and will face Kyle Kaminska for Greensboro.
