RiverDogs, Braves Halted By Rain After 2 Innings

June 23, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

Monday night's South Atlantic League game between the Charleston RiverDogs and the Rome Braves at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park was halted after two innings due to a drenching thunderstorm in the Lowcountry, with the RiverDogs leading 2-0.

The game was halted at 7:29 p.m. and about an hour later was suspended by the umpires. It marks the third straight day that the RiverDogs have been either postponed or suspended by rain, as the previous two nights in Columbus were washed out also. Charleston has not completed a game since Friday.

Monday's game will be picked up at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the top of the third inning, with Charleston expected to send reliever Craig Heyer to the mound to replace starter Noel Castillo, who had worked two perfect innings.

Following that nine-inning contest, the two teams will square off for the regularly-scheduled game that will last seven innings. First pitch will take place approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.

After a scoreless first inning, Charleston's Jesus Montero lined a double to left field and scored on Brandon Laird's two-run home run over the right field video board. It was Laird's seventh round-tripper of the season and it came off the first pitch he saw from Rome starter Yeliar Castro.

Charleston is expected to send righty Adam Olbrychowski (5-2, 3.06 ERA) to the hill to start game two while Rome will throw lefty Chad Rodgers (1-9, 4.64 ERA). The twinbill will be joined on radio locally at 6:00 pm on ESPN Radio 910 AM and on-line at www.riverdogs.com.
