Lawson Named To All-Rookie Team

Bridgeport, Conn. - The American Hockey League announced today that Sound Tigers goaltender, Nathan Lawson has been named to the 2008-09 AHL All-Rookie Team.

In his first year in the AHL, Lawson has produced impressive numbers for the Sound Tigers. Through 30 games this season, Lawson's record stands at 18-9-2. The Calgary, AB native has posted two shutouts and his goals against average of 2.13 and save percentage of .929 rank second in the league in both categories. In his first seven games, Lawson posted an unblemished mark of 7-0 and was rewarded his first NHL contract by the New York Islanders on March 2, 2009.

"There are a lot of good rookie goalies in this league so to be chosen to the AHL All-Rookie Team is a great honor," Lawson said. "Coming up from the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL), I felt confident that I could play at this level. With the support both on and off the ice from all of the guys in our dressing room, the transition was made that much easier."

Lawson joins Binghamton Senators' defenseman Mattias Karlsson, Hamilton Bulldogs' defenseman Yannick Weber, Grand Rapids Griffins' forward Justin Abdelkader and Portland Pirates' forwards Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy on the team voted on by the league's coaches, media and players.

The Sound Tigers will conclude their regular season with four straight home games starting on Friday, April 3 when they take on the East Division leading Hershey Bears.
