Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The American Hockey League announced today that Milwaukee Admirals defenseman Cody Franson and goaltender Drew MacIntyre have been named to the 2008-09 AHL Second All-Star Team, as voted by the AHL coaches, players and media in each of the league's 29 member cities.
In his first season with the Admirals, MacIntyre has posted a 31-14-4 record to go along with a 2.35 goals against average, a .919 save percentage, and four shutouts in 51 games. He has established career highs in wins, games played, and shutouts and posted six consecutive wins from December 26th to January 13th. During January the Charlottetown, PEI native notched an 8-3 record with a miniscule 2.02 goals against average and a .932 save percentage and a pair of shutouts.
Just the fourth goaltender in Admirals history to record 30 wins in one season, this is the second consecutive season that MacIntyre has been named to the AHL's Second All-Star Team. He also earned the honor last season as a member of the Manitoba Moose when he finished the year with a 25-18-2 record, a 2.32 GAA, and a .921 save percentage. He played in a pair of NHL contests in his career, both with the Vancouver Canucks, and was recalled by Nashville on two occasions this season, but did not play in a game with the Predators.
Franson leads Milwaukee defenseman and is third in among AHL rearguards with 50 points on nine goals and 41 assists in 71 games with the Ads. He has not gone more than five games this season without a point and in the month of March he posted 14 points (2g-12a) in 15 games. The Sicamous, BC native skated in the AHL All-Star classic earlier this season and is currently third on the Admirals roster in points and shots (140), and second with 22 power-play assists.
Nashville's third selection in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Franson was selected to the AHL's All-Rookie Team in the 2007-08 campaign after leading league rookie defensemen in goals scored (11), assists (23), and points (34) in 69 games with the Admirals. His 23 assists were tied for the top spot among Milwaukee blueliners and his eight power-play tallies were second most on the entire team. Franson spent four seasons playing for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League where he helped to guide the team to a pair of WHL Championships and also the 2007 Memorial Cup Title.
Joining MacIntyre and Franson on the AHL Second All-Star team are Wilkes-Barre Defenseman Ben Lovejoy and left wing Janne Pesonen, Manitoba center Jason Krog, and Grand Rapids right wing and former Admiral Darren Haydar. The First All-Star team is made up Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider, Providence defenseman Johnny Boychuk, Philadelphia defenseman Danny Syvret, Hershey forwards Alexandre Giroux and Keith Aucoin, and Harford right wing Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau.
The Admirals are back in action on Friday, April 3rd at 7:00 pm when they host the Lake Erie Monsters.
