Lavigne Homer Puts Yard Goats Past Phils

Hartford, CT- Grant Lavigne cranked a go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie, and help the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Reading Fightin Phils 7-5 on Wednesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Brenton Doyle connected on his 18th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Blair Calvo worked 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 4-0. The Yard Goats have defeated Reading in the first two games of the series.

After Reading scored the first run of the game in the first inning, the Yard Goats took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. Willie MacIver cracked an RBI single and Julio Carreras followed with an RBI double.

The Fightins took a 3-2 lead on Jhailyn Ortiz two-run homer in the third inning and added a run on Carlos De La Cruz double in the fourth to make it 4-2. The Yard Goats made it 4-3 with a run on an error in the fourth.

The Yard Goats took a 5-4 lead on Brenton Doyle's two-run home run in the fifth inning. De La Cruz tied the game for Reading with a solo shot in the seventh. However, Grant Lavigne put the Yard Goats ahead for good with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. His fourth home run of the season sailed into the upper deck in right center field.

The Yard Goats and Fightins will play the third of a six-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 Will Ethridge will start for the Yard Goats. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app.
